CLEANING up around the house or garden? Got a fair pile of rubbish to get rid of? Do the right thing and take it to the tip, use your bins, use your neighbours’ bins, contact Port Macquarie-Hastings Council for advice, but don’t dump it in the bush!
A few weeks ago dedicated volunteers donned gloves and safety gear to clean up areas that are becoming regular dumping sites for garden waste, bricks, old domestic machinery and dangerous materials including oils. It seemed the yet-to-be-identified tossers greeted this as an invitation to dump more rubbish.
At one location, the Short Beach carpark just south of Bonny Hills, garden waste, a swing set, guttering and a safe were found last week. Part of the swing set ended up being useful as half was taken before the above was photographed. Housten-Mitchell Drive is also another favoured dump site.
Local Landcare volunteers do a great job keeping our backyard beautiful. They should be able to continue clearing noxious weeds and replanting our coastline, not dragging on safety gear and cleaning up dangerous rubbish.
In the Camden Haven we are lucky enough to have several options for proper waste disposal open to us. It’s a service our council provides very well and very cheaply.
So why is rubbish still being dumped in local bushland?
If so many people can join together to prevent diesel being pumped into our air, why do we still have idiots dumping rubbish in our bush?
Dob in a tosser. If you see someone in the act of dumping rubbish contact the police or the council.
