Camden Haven High School received an award for School Achievement in ‘Vocational Education and Training Delivery’ during Education Week activities this year.

Vocational Education is the delivery of courses that are accredited nationally by industry, TAFE and Department of Education & Training. Courses count towards the HSC, a Level II Certificate and a student’s UAI. They have a combination of theory, practical and workplace learning.

This is delivered at Camden Haven High School through both face to face and distance education study. Many students are enrolled in schools in the North Coast and North West as single course students. Courses include Business Services Administration, Retail Services, Primary Industry, Metals and Engineering, Construction, Sport Coaching and Hospitality.

Seventeen staff spent time retraining across the above subjects and are involved in the delivery of these courses. Local employers who take students for their mandatory work placement of 35 hours are also an integral part of the program. Thank you to these businesses.

Camden Haven High School won this award because of the large variety of courses, the delivery in face to face and distance education modes and the substantial amount of students in all courses. Included is the whole school approach, that is, integrated across entire curriculum, availability to ALL students and the high rate of success.

Some of these successes include

* HSC results especially retail. Students in the top 10 in State two years running

* 14 students on a school based traineeship across 5 Frameworks

*Many students gain employment directly from their work placement

*Students gain high level employability skills

*Students achieve Certificate II [TAFE certificate] in their respective Framework.

Parents and students of Year 10 are invited to our information evening where HSC and VET details will be presented on July 28 2008 at 6.30pm in the school’s Multi Purpose Centre.
