Junior boardriders tame the conditions

18/06/2008 10:59:00 AM
AUTUMN has brought some excellent waves for the Camden Haven Junior Board Riders and with good winter swells on the way there should be plenty of waves for everyone.

The Industry lead contest season is upon us also and our local surfers continue to shine.

Congratulations to Mitch Sykes placing 4th at the Hurley/Saltwater Wine Comp at Old Bar beach. Jack Germain is really starting to make his mark with a 2nd at the Parko Gromstomp on the Sunshine Coast which is an outstanding achievement.

Sam Bates came 1st in the under 15’s regional school championships. This was a fantastic result for ‘the world’s keenest surfer’. Danny Schouten and Sam then went on to place 2nd in the teams challenge defeating schools from Woolgoolga to Forster along the way.

In other club news March saw members head to Point Plomer for the Junior Boardriders’ annual camp. Kelly Mills took out the Juniors and Jack Germain the Cadets in fun, secluded back beach waves. Ben Ramsey kept the crew laughing all night with a classic selection of camp fire games. Thanks to all the parents who made it such a success.

The Junior Board Riders’ April comp had sensational waves which saw some all round fine surfing. Having just moved up to the Junior division, Todd Bourke was a popular winner. The young kid rips. Danny Schouten loves the big stuff and the little nugget destroyed everything he could find to win the Cadets.

The club has a big crew of grommets who are just charging. They found some great scoring rides at the May comp. It’s hard to tell if they were more stoked with their surfing or the gift packs they got from our excellent sponsors. Kelly Mills was again too strong in the Juniors. He’s a great example for our kids to look up to and is proving hard to beat. Jack Germain was on a mission and surfed way beyond his years to take out the Cadets.
