New skills kick in for Bombers

3/06/2008 2:51:00 PM
All the big news in the Camden Haven Bombers came from the Auskick camp with another big roll-up and a trip to the hallowed SCG to play at half-time in the Sydney Swans game.

Back in Laurieton, another big roll-up completed a big fortnight of new blood for the Laurieton Auskickers.

Sam and Josh Arandale have joined in the fun and are playing brilliantly, Jackson Branagan picked up the skills very quickly, while Tom and Alex Quiney have completed their first official runs and were among the best on the ground in their two performances.

Callum Vanderent and Josh have picked up awards while Trent Clarke and newcomer Lachlan Eames have also put in strong displays.

Noah Hallett has showed the benefits of some skills sessions with Under 12s coach Andrew Bagnall.

Last Sunday, Tahlia Rakete, Latitia Clare, Ewen Harris and Jy West produced stunning first-game displays.

In the Under 14s, the Bombers went down by five goals against Wauchope Kangaroos but that is not even the beginning of the story.

The mighty red and blacks showed more spirit and courage than possibly ever before.

Corinne Wilkes had a bleeding mouth, black eye and twisted her knee before insisting to coach Chris Wright that she was OK to go back on and finish the game.

Matt Woodward produced the play of the day running full steam into a pack of players and spoiling what was a certain Wauchope mark.

Matt come off second best and to the surprise of everyone at the ground, picked himself up, gave a thumbs-up and finished off the game before icing his injuries after the game.

Andy Stokes and Luke O’Neill showed real club spirit by coming back from rep rugby league to help out their desperate team-mates and Hayden Clarke did the same rushing back from Kempsey from the Under 12s.

Darby Bennett showed pure skill and the ability to read the ball in the air in a fantastic second half while Kyle Lynch dominated the ruck all day and ran his heart out around the ground.

Ari Vanderent also produced some great patches playing in an age division above what he’s entitled to play in.

The highlight of the Under 12s’narrow loss to Macleay Valley Eagles was a Best On Ground performance by debutant Blayne Bignell who also kicked three goals.

Trent Finch was a standout in the backline and was strong in defence while Mitch Dickson and Liam Howard ran hard all day covered plenty of territory.

There is no junior football this weekend but there will be Auskick and an Auskick BBQ at 10.30am in Laurieton on Sunday and all new and current players are welcome.

To join up, please call Gordon on 0418 266 700 or turn up with your $40 for the season’s registration this Sunday.
