under 12s

Camden Haven junior AFL under 12’s kept their winning sequence intact on Sunday at Port Macquarie.Taking on Port Magpies who were coming off a three game winning streak was never going to be a walk in the park. At the end of the first quater it looked like a close game was in order, that was until the likes of Connor Haswell, Tyson Wiegold, Hayden Clarke and Lachlan Albion stepped up a gear. These four were able to combine with the likes of Ari Vanderant, Tom Schnider, Brice Hayward and the dynamic Luke O’Neill to keep the Magpies scoreless for the next three quarters, and in the process compile ninety four unanswered points. Final score Bombers 18-7-115 - Magpies 1-0-6.Goal kickers for the Bombers, Tyson Wiegold 7, Tom Schnider 2, Lachlan Albion 2,Blake Nixon 2, Liam Howard 2, and one each to Hayden Clarke and Brice Hayward.

The under 14’s had a much closer and highly entertaining game against the undefeated Magpies. The Magpies went into the game as red hot favourites and rightly so on the back off their unbeaten record, but any one who took the short odds on the Maggies were feeling very uneasy as the Bombers weren’t going to die wondering, throwing every thing they had at the hot pots. The first quater was all the Maggies leading 22 - 1 at the break. Then the lights went on for Jahbe Latham, Jed Seymour and the “all guts” Alex Pearce. These three combined well with Tiana Pearce, Jake Taylor,Corinne Wilkes and Drew Smith to bring the Bombers back into the match. The game developed into a close affair with only a goal separating the two at times. The Magpies getting on top in the end 11 - 11 - 77 to 8 - 6 -54.This close result has now paved the way for a brilliant return clash at Laurieton on Sunday. The Bombers are calling on the community to come along and support them, in their quest to do what no one else has done this year, Beat The Magpies.

Our July outing was held over the weekend of July 5 & 6. Nine people fished who presented 66 fish for a weight of 38 kilos. The winners for the outing were Dylan Baldry in the juniors, Helen Baldry in the ladies, Rob Baldry in the men’s and Barry Sandersan in the veterans. This was the first outing for the new year and it was good to see some new faces mixed in with the regulars.

This weekend 9 & 10, will see our August outing held with the weigh-in at 1.30pm on Sunday at the club. If anyone is interested in joining our club you can go fishing from midnight Friday night through to the weigh-in on Sunday and then come along and join up at the weigh-in. Let’s hope that the weather gods smile upon us this weekend and we can get out amongst the fish.

See you there on Sunday.

GOLF

Bonny Hills Beach Hotel Social

When you Google the word “teamwork”, it refers to the concept of people working together cooperatively as a team in order to accomplish the same goal. In Sundays’ stableford multiplier, if each pair had the common goal of getting the most number of stableford points, well I’m afraid to say that teamwork was tossed out the second storey window. The event involves multiplying the partners’ stableford points. Mathematicians will tell you that anything multiplied by zero gives you zero. There were countless pars scored with their partners’ wipe and, most commonly, a 2, 3 or 4 pointer would be matched with a low scoring 1 point. The last placed pair actually scored 46 points between them in total, but their multiplier score was only 25. Very poor teamwork

The winners on the day were Tony and Marie Carroll (with a little help from Geoff Irvin). They had 60 points for a comfortable victory. Tony had no wipes and showed his consistent skills. He deserves his winning voucher at the Bonny Hills Tavern. Marie played 9 holes and was in great form and scored 19 points individually. Geoff Irvin became the swinger for the final 6 holes and he was also a great contributor. Geoff’s drives were huge and the rest of his game was also quality golf. Suffice to say, Geoff won the Mens Longest Drive, as well as the NTP on the 10th. Marie Carroll won the Ladies Longest Drive. NTP on the 4th was won by Tony Carroll.

The runners-up were the Father-Son pairing of Roger and Vince Miles. Roger proudly showed of his skills to his son and rejoiced in telling the odd yarn and tall story to get a laugh. He loves his social outing at golf.

The other award went to John MacIntosh who had the most eventful 13th hole. His drive went 3 metres at a 90 degrees angle to the left into the 12th holes bunker. That prompted an “I’m giving this b…….. game away. I’m that disillusioned with my play.” He was standing 50 cm above his ball when he was hitting out of the sand and it went a considerable distance. John Vale then began offering some coaching tips. Macca’s next 3 shots found the timber. One definition of “timber” is “wood when used as construction material.” John’s definition is “strange-shaped plants strategically placed to annoy the hell out of poor golfers, causing the destruction of a good round of golf.” When he got onto the green, it would be no surprise that a good putt lipped the hole and remained on the edge. He was reminded of the quote “your worst day at golf is better than your best day at work.” He’ll be back again.

Other plays of the day came from Tom Scrine putting his tee shot on the 4th into the bunker. After his second shot, he was still in the sand. After his 3rd shot, his ball was in the hole. He is a quick learner is our Tom. He also putted into the hole from off the green on a later hole.

The next event will be at Wauchope on August 17 and will be a 7am start. The event will be a 2 Ball Stroke.
