NH Bowls Social Golf
Last Wednesday 25 members braved a frosty morning to compete a Single Stroke match. Once again the handicapper proved that he had the game under control with not one member making a net par score. (Perhaps the newly cored and sanded greens contributed.) The A Grade winner with a score of 54 was T. Rose on C/B from R. Perry. Third place went to A. Aitken with 56. B Grade's best was J. Fairbrother with a 55. Runner up on C/B was C. Huntley with 56 leaving R. Woolgar third. NTP on the fifth in A Grade was I. Johnston and B Grade went to R. Bower. NTP on the eighth in A went to J. Henry and B Grade's ball went to B. Hudson. Best putting score in A Grade went to W. Wells with 24 putts and in B Grade, M. McLean won the ball. Next week's game will be for the Bob Robertson Trophy and will be an American Foursomes. Starters for this game will be T. Rose and K. Nieass. The Sunday raffle will be under the auspices of J. Fairbrother, B. Johnston & F. Paine.

Bonny Hills Beach Hotel Social Golf.
A Single Stroke competition was held at Wauchope last Sunday and, unfortunately, numbers were low due to illness and Olympicitis.
Geoff Irvin began his round by “laying-up” on the first hole. A 50 metre shot was a very unusual beginning for Geoff. He followed that on the 2nd with a booming drive which left him with a wedge shot onto the green (par 5). On the 14th hole he won the Men’s Longest Drive by a long margin.
While his chipping and putting were inconsistent, his overall play was good enough for him to win the event on the day. Geoff won on a count back from David Middlebrook, who finished with a 7, 5 and 7 to throw away his earlier good play. They had a net 60 for the 15 holes. David was seen to “accidently” lose his grip on his pitching wedge on the 15th hole after completing his shot over the bunker. The pitiching wedge flew approximately 15 metres towards the pin; David was overhead to mumble something about losing his grip. The rest of the group was well alert to who was losing their grip. I wonder what the handicapper has to say about that.
Carol Middlebrook did well with a net 62 to finish 3rd after missing several events recently. Tom Scrine had several senior moments during his round with his mind seemingly elsewhere on occasions. After the 4th hole, he imagined he’d just finished the 7th and headed toward the 8th tee. Tom drove very well all-round, but his putting let him down somewhat. Nevertheless, he was able to finish his round well and get himself home and thoughtfully bring his “carer” to the pub for lunch. While Roger Miles may have won the Bradman award, he certainly supplied a never-ending number of wisecracks to keep the small group continually amused.
The next event on the 1st of September is the bus trip to Taree. The bus will leave the Bonny Hills Beach Hotel at 6.30am sharp. All those interested in attending should place their name on the board at the pub.

Under 11’s
We are out but not without a good fight, hearts were breaking but not from the loss but from pride for our mighty under 11’s. We are all so proud of our boys you all played so well. Our all star team was legend Lachie Hudson, look out Lachie Hayman, jaguar Jarrod, jet James, jack hammer Josh O’D, jugular Josh K, jungle Jarmyn, magnet Matt, mad Marcus, magic McKenzie, awesome Alex, zig-zag Zack, torpedo Tom, storm Scott, razor Riley and hurricane Harry (out this game). It has been a privilege to spend Saturday nights writing about you boys, thanks for the fun. A big thanks to mums, dads, nans, pops for cheering on the boys but most of all a big, big thanks to Shane and Chris for your time, knowledge and hard work spent on this team, your love for the game showed each week in each of the boys. Bring on 2009 it’s ours.

I would like to say thanks to Brad, Thomas, Ike, Davy, Blake, Ben, Brent, Charlie and Casey Dylan and Kade from under 6’s for a tremendous year of footy. Also to Mark and Rodney for their help and to the parents for their support throughout the year, thanks very much. We have one final day together, presentation day. Let’s have plenty of fun and practice in the off-season ready for next year. Thanks boys.

NHBC Anglers
Our August comp was held last weekend 16 and 17. Once again, as per usual comp weekends, boisterous conditions the norm of the day. What else could one expect, to greet us. We had a much better roll-up of members and visitors attend than expected which was great to see. Thank you one and all where seven anglers presented eight species for 22 fish to weighmaster Geoff Boese and recorder Dick Spencer. “Robbo’s Quinnie Legend” conquered the “Wild Blue” outside where Mr President, Ray Robinson, much to his credit, had five species for nine fish of three each of snapper to .765 x 6, sand flathead to .785kg, one each of bonito at .885kg, silver trevally at .300kg and a sweep – top show Ray plus a few extra bonus points. Ray’s deckie, John Cavey with one each of a sandy at 1. 065kg and a snapper at .500kg. From the estuary, Troy Taylor in with a good effort of four bream and best at .745kg. Dick Spencer with two bream to .400kg and a dusky flathead. Geoff Boese with a bream at .450kg from the beach, Aaron Muldoon in with two salmon at 2.540kg and 2.100kg, another good effort by first timer with us and horror beach conditions. Junior boys saw James Penrose in with a dusky flathead – good on you James. Sixty dollars secret weight won by John Cavey. Two x $20 lucky anglers won by Aaron Muldoon and Ray Robinson. Fifteen dollar voucher won by Des (DJ) Sparkes for a junior attending. Welcome aboard new members, Chantelle Delaney, Aaron Muldoon, Elizabeth Robinson and Graham Knevett. Our next committee meeting on Tuesday September 9, at 6pm, Bowling Club. Members welcome to attend meeting, and comp following week ending 13 and 14 and weigh-in at 1pm on Sunday 14. New members are welcome to join. See Trevor Lewis Assistant Manager of the Bowling Club. In the meantime, “Fine Piscatorialing.”
Camden Haven Redbacks Junior Soccer
U/10 C H Ray White R/E V Port United Dragons
Congratulations Redbacks!! You dug deep and came away with the 2-1 win. Well done. You showed good team support and talked to each other. Even though it was nil all at half time and then in the 2nd half when it was looking like a 1-1 draw you all never gave up and then showed confidence and called for the ball and had consistent play. All the family and friends supporting from the sideline were so proud. We even noticed the coach jump in the air with excitement as well as a sign of relief when the full time whistle blew. Give yourselves a rap for the win! Don’t forget there is still training on Wednesday. Go Reds!
LUSC YD1 v MVR
First qualifying semi, and Rangers took it to us for the first five minutes. From there on it was all the Redbacks. Pressure was rewarded when a shot on goal by Trump was misshit but fell to Huck who was sharp enough to place it inside the near post. It was soon two when Huck sent in a low hard ‘specky’ which a MVR defender could only rifle into his own net. Nathan Laws eagerness found him one-on-one with the keeper he struck the post but his second chance found the net, 3 nil capped off a brilliant first half. In the second half we fell off our game quite a bit mainly due to many substitutions and a massive foul count against us. Some of them well what can you say, eventually MVR were awarded a dottie, keeper Westy got a glove to it but could not keep it out 3-1 final score. We now get a weeks rest and then one win away from making the big one. Go you Reds. See you at training.
Camden Haven Laundry
Under 13 Girls v South West Rocks
Sudden death semi, unfortunately it was us going down by just one nil. An early goal rattled us and from there on we looked like the better side however, we could not capitalize on our many opportunities. Bad luck girls that’s the way it goes. Anyway thanks to our sponsors, mums and dads and of course you the team who kept us entertained all season. The memories are all there some good, some bad but who remembers the bad ones. Thanks Ronnie. See you all at the presentation. Stay off the computers and keep that ball at your feet, next season is just around the corner.
Go you Redbacks.
U/8 CH Blue Widders Consultancy v Camden Haven Black
Camden Haven Blue played Camden Haven Black in a game that turned out to be a hard fought battle. Both teams had chances in the first half with the Blues first to score with Jack intercepting a goal kick and banging it back past the keeper. With good control and passing from Michael, this led to Jeb having a few close shots and Harrison was strong at the back with some good tackles. Camden Haven Black equalled the score towards the end of the first half from a corner which bounced off two players and went in. The second half was much like the first with both teams having several chances at scoring. Tyron continued his good form of late with solid tackles and good passing. Josh and Tim chased well in the second half but Camden Haven Black got the win with a well taken free kick in front of goals. Well done both teams with a good hard match. There is only one game left. See you all at training.
