LUSC Fishing Club
Gidday punters. Well what a weekend! The weather gods shone down on us and granted us glorious weather for both Saturday and Sunday. (March 15/16.) This was also reflected in the bags presented at weigh in, although the estuary boys and girls did it a bit tough.
Picks of the crop were Mick Minarsky's rock and beach bag comprising of taylor, bream and a 14kg longtail tuna, a top effort for the rocks. The other was (yours truly) Col Trenaman's bag of 13 fish, 4 species for 39.8kg. This comprised of 5 bonito, 5 mack tuna, 2 pearl perch, an 11kg longtail tuna, and a tow home on Sunday by the sea rescue crew.
To weekend results, sub junior estuary winner was Matt Woodward, who also won the junior deep sea, well done Matt. Men's estuary winner was Gary Edwards with a fine bag of blackfish. Men's vets estuary winner was Peter "Poppy" Pritchard with Mal Isaac runner up.
Ladies' estuary winner was Mel Edwards with a great bag of blackfish and bream. Men's vets rock and beach winner was Bob Clarke. Men's vets deep sea was a close run event with Kiwi O'Neil just beating Ken Cowell. Ladies' vets deep sea was won by Marg Sheridan and runner up was Janette Sheldon. Men's rock and beach winner was Mick Minarsky with that excellent bag mentioned before and runner up was Gary Edwards. Men's deep sea winner was yours truly Col Trenaman with Mark Whyte runner up.
Treno's tip: I think I have mentioned this before about registering with sea rescue and if you have not done this already please do so. I had the curse of the flat battery cast upon me on Sunday and if I was not registered with the sea rescue, it would have made it very interesting indeed. I once again thank them for their prompt service and professionalism that they provided. These people give up their time so we, as the boating public, can pursue our pastimes on the water safely. Oh, to all of those caring people who rang me after I had been towed to safety, I thank them for their renditions of "Row, row, row your boat..". It was very thoughtful.
Our next fishing club outing is on 12th and 13th April with weigh in at 1pm at the rear of the Laurieton RSL. Until next month, happy hunting.

LAWN BOWLS
A good day last Thursday for some bowlers, weather good, a little breezy, but other than that, things were fine, good green, good company, no good sorts though. Firstly a big welcome to our new member Brian Templeton, I hope your stay with our club is a long and happy one. And a big welcome back to Don Holbert, who has a bit of stiff trot health wise lately. On the sick list this week is Gary Hillman, Doug Porter, Jim Smith, Hank Larandajk, Don McMirdy, Reg Spencer, one thing he is not sick of, and that is shouting, and Bob Nixon, bad back, winning that money may have been the cause, I know of a good bachelor flat, if you want a rest. Birthdays, Phil Gibbs, Happy Birthday Phil, I hope you got the usual refreshments. There were five games of Pairs Champions played last Thursday and the results were R Bartholomew and whiskers Lane, defeated B Suann and Les Thompson. Percy Fry and Mike Carney defeated Ron Collins and Dennis James. William Hyde and Allan Beattie defeated Tubby Archer and Les Tobin. Billy Hyde must of played some very good bowls. Churchmouse and three arm Wyper defeated Walter Barnes and smokin Joe Bishop. John Moore and Barrie Shorter flogged Col Jarret and F Honeyman, but I will win a game next week I am marking. The championships to be played next week are one game of pairs. Don Appleby and Barry Wilkes play Trevor Rose and Jerry Janik. Minor Singles games are R Collins plays Mark Ryan marker R Church. The sheet will be coming down about the 16th, not far away, only a few sleeps and it will be here. Ladies bowls played at Kew last Wednesday, some people were lucky like Carole Constable for instance, won the bowls and a huge basket of Easter eggs, I heard she had a stall at the markets on Saturday. Marion Brown was another bowls winner and Mauree Bradford and Freda Chinnery also came out winners. There is a list up at the club if you want a game any Wednesday 9am start, if you can’t get to the club just turn up at Kew Club by 8.45, or ring Freda on 6559 8630, and you will be smiling.
