There were two people who just asked to play and we were happy to agree. I do hope that they enjoyed their games. There were 3x3 game winners Jack and John Caples, Carole Hyde and Craig Sharp, Bill Hyde and Annette Sharp. Carole and Bill are always happy to show newcomers how to play. Winners were Bill and Annette and Carole and Craig were the runners-up. Scratchies were then presented to Jack and John Caples. Other scratchies were won by Mary Fisher and Heather Watson, Lester and Margaret Caples, Barney Hurrell and Sharyn Taylor. The AGM is being held on June 24. Nominations for position are out now. Bonny Hills Beach Hotel Social Golf.

With the wet weather disrupting all organisation, the Club transferred their bus trip to Tallwoods to a vehicular journey to Wauchope last Sunday. The 18 hole single stroke event at Wauchope was also disrupted a little with the drizzle, but there wasn’t enough to deter 16 hardy souls enjoy their morning of golf.

Kate Molony returned to the winners list with another handicap busting round of 111 off the stick to give her a nett 65, well ahead of the next best player. She has improved so quickly over the past 9 months that anything is possible in the future. The handicapper will make her winning chances very limited for the next few weeks.

Richard (Stitchy) Parker was runner-up with a 98, nett 72. Stitchy has been out of the winners circle for a while so his handicap has risen so that he was bound to come into the money soon. Stitchy was lucky to survive his round. He was playing with another newcomer, Brynn Parry, who found himself in the sand trap on the 3rd hole. Stitchy was standing on the far side of the green when Brynn’s bunker exit shot zoomed past Stitchy and before he had time to stand up after ducking the first missile, the ball had whizzed past him a second time after ricocheting off a tree – a double scare in 1.2 seconds.

Kate’s mother, Diana approached the 10th tee stating; “I’m going to try something different.” With her driver in hand she belted the ball really hard, but it kept extremely low; skipped on the pond and then bounced up the fairway into a reasonably good position. One of the pond residents thought they were a “dead duck”. It was worse for another pond resident; a crane in the ball’s trajectory was seen standing on the edge of the pond with only one leg. In contrast, Diana played the 17th hole almost perfectly; 3 long drives had her on the green. She then 2 putted for an outstanding par.

A new player on the day was Phil Hancock, who arrived without his putter. His playing partner on the day, Geoff Irvine, lent Phil his putter with some unusual results. After a few holes, Phil was so frustrated with is putting that he believed that he couldn’t do any worse with one hand. So he used one hand and sunk a 4 metre putt. He did this for several holes and sunk more long putts. After a while he returned to two hands and subsequently took 4 putts on one hole, missing one putt from about 20 cms.

While there are the usual whingers about their handicaps, the handicapper continues to have thick skin and continues to treat each player fairly and refuses to budge with bribes, etc. I do believe that the handicapper heard about Denese Kennedy’s victory on the Saturday, and this, of course will lead to her handicap being reduced.

Other winners on the day were: NTP – Josh Miles, NTP (2nd shot) – Josh Miles, LLD – Carol Middlebrook (injured back and all) and MLD – Mark Overton (with only 4 hours sleep).

The Tallwoods trip has now been rescheduled for September 14. Next fortnight, golf is at Wauchope, beginning at 7 am.

LUSC Lawn Bowls

Another enjoyable day Thursday last. A good roll-up of bowlers to enjoy the game, the good greens and the very best of company. Firstly the sick list we have William Lovell in Base Hospital, Jim Smith hobbling around with his bad feet, I hope they will soon be fit and happy along with any others that I have not mentioned. No championships played on this day owing to Lake Cathie’s commitment to their Big Bowls Tournament, which was washed out unfortunately. Anyway June 12, week we have two singles championships when M Ryan plays W Hyde, marker A Beattie and Mike Carney plays W Barnes, marker Allen Bradford. The best of luck to all. The social winners on the day were R Partlett, wrinkles Woodhouse and Trevor Brauer, 2nd winning rink R Templeman, Les Tobin and John Brown, runners-up were Tubby Archer, Harold Baldry and F Honeyman, 2nd runners-up Cowboy Wilkes, Whiskers Huntley and Pommie Bennett. The lucky number winners were $20 Ron Allan, $10 John Moore and $5 to Allan Beattie. I bet Noreen won’t get much. Christmas Club raffle winners of $25 went to R Collins, fearless Fred Easterbrook and lucky old John Slager, some people have all the luck. I believe the bus trip to Blackhead was very well attended everyone enjoyed themselves and a great day was had by all. Another reminder to all our members that your membership renewal is now due and must be paid by June 30, or you will be unfinancial and will have to reapply to rejoin and the limit is getting close to being full, so you can give your $2 to any of the following committee members. A Bradford, Jerry Janik, G Hillman, F Honeyman, P Loveday, Mike Carney, Max Lindsay or Robert Nixon. They will fix it up for you and don’t forget our AGM will be held on Monday July 28, at 2pm at LUSC and if you want to vote get your $2 payment in now. A prior notice of our bus trip to Wingham Bowling Club coming up on Sunday August 17, always a good fun day at Wingham, but all the details at a later date, just letting you know, so you can put it in your little black book. That is all I have my little black book these day. Hope everyone is enjoying the best of health, the sunshine, etc, and don’t forget to be kind to your neighbours, you never know when you may need them. No visitors this week.

See ya - Jack High.

CH Redbacks

Junior Soccer

Widders Consultancy v

Wauchope Bullocks

Under 8’s

The game started fast with Wauchope creating some good breaks which saw Harrison at back tackling strong. Mike and Tim passed the ball well in the middle with Josh chasing and tackling well. Nil all at half time and some position changes for the second, quickly paid off with Jack banging one in. Jeb and Tim combined well to pass to Tyron who slotted it past the keeper. Wauchope got one back but with Mike at back tacklng everything, Jeb and Jack knocked in some strong shots that the keeper had no chance of saving. Excellent passing and a strong finish to the game saw the score finish 8-1. Goals to Jack 5, Jeb 2, Tyron 1.

U/10 Ray White R/E ‘V’ Port Saints Leopards 7/6/08

The team worked hard and done well for the 3-0 win. We have to watch our off side when we’re about to score. Congratulations keeping the other team scoreless. Go Reds!

CH Laundry Girls v

Wauchope Under 13

Could not continue our form of last week going down by a single goal not too much to write about must give credit to the girls and the spectators to brave those conditions the timing was uncanny. Hope Skye Munro is well taking the brunt of that ball in the face, she did well to carry on. See you at training need to practice, not ball watching. Keep having fun.

LUSC YD1 v Port RSL

A lone goal to Nathan Laws mid way through the first half was the difference in the end. That maintained our unbeaten run, we apologise to players and spectators at one of our very few home games for producing a dour match to watch, as it was just too hard to form any kind of structure in the team having to run six subs on and off and try and keep everyone happy and hold on to a win. Anyway, keep having fun see you at training. Go you Redbacks, probably a much more difficult match at Dixie next week.

LUSC Snooker

Thursday night major final - a few years ago Ray MacLaughlin didn’t know one end of a cue from the other. These days “Big Ray Mac,” is watched by club members who wish they had Ray’s hidden talents (temperament, ability to concentrate, and practice). His “table manners” are second to none. No wonder he enjoys his nights out - especially when he wins. Now “Old Smoothie” has talent too, his love of catching blackfish with “Jimbo Gill” has seen him feed many of his friends and neighbours. He comes to the club to play snooker and unwind after a hard days fishing, he doesn’t care about winning and people like “Big Mac” just make his day “complete.” Minor Final “The Beaver” goes for gold “Mick Banicek” tried to stay in touch but was way off the pace.

Tuesday night “The Kunze” cops plenty of flack, he can destroy your dream of winning a dead chook in just 60 seconds. People used to pay money to watch him play. “The Sting” could not convince the committee to limit his handicap that’s the difference between “Ingrey” and “Kunze.” The runners-up “Speedway Col” just loves to play the game minor final “Keith Racievich” shows plenty of style “Lady Thea” has her hands full of work (Committee work) but we all should share “The work.” (last weeks stir about raffles was not aimed at the working members) it must be the pit-”bull” in me. Yes when we get down to it we are all “Snooker players,” if North Haven are doing it tough then we should help, Sunday July 20, “the Boss” Colin Cookie will make sure it’s a good day. “Can you handle a “Big Mac.”

Two Balls.
