Tennis wash-out

18/06/2008 11:59:00 AM
Unfortunately rain played havoc with this year’s Laurieton Tennis Open over the June Long week-end.

Only around 30 games were played over Saturday and Sunday, with both days delayed by rain while no play at all was possible on Monday as the weather worsened.

David Currer, the No.1 seed from Sydney made it through to the final after playing his semi-final in atrocious conditions. However that was the only semi able to be completed.

A toss of a coin was needed to declare him the Open men’s winner of the event for 2008 which included the first prize holiday at Brigadoon Holiday park.

The special ladies singles was won by Gosford’s Wendy McCabe over local Ashley Howe and in the juniors, local boy Alex Burton was runner - up in 16 years boys.
